The Appendix
I thought I'd start a new blog, reserved for random things. I figured most of the people who read Maggie's blog really just want to know about Maggie...probably not so much about my back yard and houseplants. That's what this page is for. Maggie will most likely make appearances since she's a major part of my life, but I'll get to ramble about other stuff here as well. Here goes!
I really got my hopes up today about a potential job for Brian. Yesterday, his boss called to tell him that someone from the company was coming in and wanted to talk to Brian about a position that just opened up. Things were looking really good, and I really thought it was going to finally go somewhere. Well, once again, we were let down. Brian waited ALL DAY for this guy to come and talk to him. He never did, so Brian found him before leaving. Apparently this person was not interested in Brian for the job at all. They are going to cover the position by contracting it out. But, they'll "keep him in mind" if anything opens up. It's pretty discouraging. Brian's worked at this place for over 2 years now, has done an outstanding job, and he's going nowhere! I thought it would at least look good on his resume that he's worked there for two years, but two head hunters have told him that it "doesn't look good" that he's worked there for so long and has not been given a full-time position. I know something will work out for him, but the process is just very frustrating.
In the meantime, he and I have both started teaching lessons at the Conservatory of Music. The summer is usually really slow, but together we have about 13 students. I really enjoy teaching lessons (it's what I originally applied for at the Conservatory) and it gives me a reason to play my trumpet a few times a week. I have to make sure I'm not too rusty so that I can be a good teacher. I'm meeting with my trumpet professor from college in a couple of weeks to brush up on some things and get some teaching advice. Brian is enjoying teaching also.
One thing that I DESPERATELY need to start doing on a regular basis is PAINTING. I've done a few commissions since graduating college and several drawings, but since I got pregnant with Maggie, I haven't worked on any paintings. I miss it so much. It's like a part of me is missing! I planned to paint the other night after Maggie went to bed, but then she stayed awake until about 11pm. I'll just have to get Brian to watch her a couple hours a week so I can go paint downstairs. I bet he'd be okay with that.
On a completely different note, I'm back to my pre-baby weight. I'm still not fitting into my old clothes because I was more in shape back then, but I'm getting closer I think. I've lost 10 lbs since February. It's going slow, but at least I'm getting there! I'd like to lose 15 more lbs to get to my ideal weight. I was a little overweight when I got pregnant with Maggie. When the weather is nice I love taking Maggie and Penny for walks with Brian. I use Maggie's baby carrier thing (the backpack kind, only she's in front) and it usually puts her to sleep! She looks so funny with her little limbs hanging out. I'd like to do that this evening, since it appears to be a nice day ahead.
Well, I gotta get ready for work! Hopefully I'll have more to report soon! :)
